Carbon Footprint Calculator

A single person:

  • Travelling by commercial airline from the US or Australia to Africa return.   

  • Staying on safari for up to 2 weeks in lodges and camps.  

  • Travelling up to 1000 miles (1600 km) in a safari vehicle or by internal flights will use: 

7 tons (6.35 tonnes or 6350 kg) of carbon.

 

An acre of African forest can absorb 2.5 tonnes of CO2 annually:

  • For a single traveller on the safari example above - 2.5 acres (2 soccer or American football pitches) of forest needs to be protected for a year to offset this footprint. 

 

A family of 4:

  • Travelling by commercial airline from the US or Australia to Africa return.

14.5 tons (13 tonnes or 13000 kg) of carbon.
