Kisampa Conservancy is located in Eastern Tanzania, quite close to the Indian Ocean and about 2 hours North of Dar Es Salaam.

It acts as a buffer zone to one of the only Coastal National parks in the whole of Africa- a unique and beautiful ecosystem, that is fragile due to a growing local population and the demand for firewood from the hub of Dar Es Salaam.

Rob and Jackie found this little paradise some 18 years ago and have been protecting the area and the small local communities that live within the area ever sinceā€¦

Protecting community-managed environments

Kisampa is host to ox-bow lakes, riverine forests, open grassland, wild rolling hills and steep ridges, as well as many indigenous Tanzanian trees. By patrolling the area in boats, air-planes, on foot and using camera traps we have seen a noticeable reduction in poaching activity for wildlife and timber.

Providing tangible benefits within communities

At Kisampa we work with 5 villages and several hundred people that benefit from the conservancy. Not only do we pay a concession fee for the land we are protecting, but just as importantly, we buy our supplies and employ our staff from the local area. Through funds raised at Kisampa, we can help local schools, medical facilities and local communities.

Preserving natural habitats for wildlife

The wildlife that comes through Kisampa is extensive and varied. Through the protection of forestry, we have seen a large increase in the number of wildlife in recent years. Wildlife conservation at Kisampa involves using camera traps to capture rare animal sightings, removing snares from illegal poaching and much more. We have seen the successful rescue and rehabilitation of various species including antelope, birds and monkeys.
